Ushering at Sacred Heart Church is a very simple, yet important job that requires very little training. All ages, male or female are welcome to become ushers (as long as you are able to safely handle the collection basket.)
As an usher, you are part of the welcoming team at the entrances of the church before mass and can sit at the back of the church, or sit with your family (wherever they sit in church) and simply go to the back at the specific time required.
The ushers are currently scheduled every third month and when you are on holidays or away; there are plenty of other ushers to take your place.
Sometimes you will be required to assist people in finding a seat, directing them to the washroom, and answering any questions (most of the answers are in the information pamphlets in the pew or in the bulletin.)
You will also take up collection, bring up the gifts, and help direct the parishioners at the time of communion.
